THE PROBLEM EMERGES

Plastic's strength = its weakness: It never disappears!

Plastic production:

• 1950: 2 million tons/year
• 2025: 400 million tons/year (200x increase!)
• 2050 path: 1 billion tons/year

Only 9% ever recycled. 12% burned. 79% in landfills or nature!

WHERE IT GOES

• Oceans: 8 million tons annually
• Breaks into microplastics (never fully degrades)

HEALTH IMPACTS

Chemicals in plastic:
