WHAT IS WIND?
Wind = moving air!
Sun heats Earth unevenly → hot air rises → cold air rushes in → WIND!
Wind can be:
- Gentle breeze
- Strong gusts
- Hurricane force!
WIND HAS ALWAYS HELPED HUMANS
Long ago: Sailed ships across oceans, turned windmills to grind wheat
Now: Giant wind turbines make electricity!
YOUR 2050: Wind will power millions of homes with clean energy!
HOW WIND TURBINES WORK
- Wind blows
- Blades spin (some taller than Statue of Liberty!)
- Spinning makes electricity
- Electricity goes to homes!
One big turbine = power for 1,000 homes!
ACTIVITY 1: MAKE A PINWHEEL
